Antique Irish Silver Dish Ring

This fine antique Irish sterling silver dish ring has a circular waisted form. The sterling silver body of the dish is embellished diamond piercing with a vacant cartouche to either side. The Dish ring is fitted with a removable blue glass liner. Made in Dublin in 1916 by West & Son . Height 3.75 inches 9.5 cm Width 8 inches 20.3 cm

The dish ring, also known as a potato ring, was introduced in the late 17th century and used to support a hot food dish on a table or sideboard; not only adding to the ornamentation but also protecting the surface against heat.
